Scripps Health has announced the launch of a new study, called Wired for Health, which will explore the opportunities available in wireless technologies, healthcare, and social networks.

Dr. Eric Topol, director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute (STSI) made the announcement in a press release.

STSI has started recruiting 200 patients with chronic ailments like diabetes, hypertension, and heart conditions to analyze their healthcare costs and pinpoint opportunities for better patient engagement using new technology.

The data collected via mobile devices will be used to prompt more appropriate health interventions. Dr. Topol is one of the country’s leading advocates of mobile technology in healthcare.
