Public Comments Welcome for New PCMH Standards

Date: 06.21.2013 | Anna Abraham

NCQA is looking for public comments (especially stakeholders in accountable care) on new draft standards for Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH). Comments must be submitted in writing via the NCQA’s public comment website by 17:00 (EST) on Monday, July, 2013.

The new draft incorporates new current trends, encourages population health management, promotes integration of behavioral health with primary care, and enhances applicability of the standards to pediatric practices.

“While the initial product was ground-breaking in content and process, the health care market has changed,” the organization explains about the need for and scope of changes. “Practices are increasingly able to function as medical homes. Yet there is more progress to be made in supporting sustainability of the PCMH model and working to meet the tenets of the triple aim – improved outcomes, enhanced patient experience and reduced costs of care.”

The PCMH product will be released in March 2014.
