Building the HIT Infrastructure for Patient Centered Medical Home
Charles DeShazer,
VP Medical Informatics, Quality and Transformation, Dean Health System
Understand the HIT implications of the new emerging care models. HIT not only closes critical gaps in how care is delivered but will be essential to enabling higher levels of competitive performance. The EHR is essential but must be optimized and integrated into a complete HIT “ecosystem” and transformed culture to deliver on its promise.

From an EHR vendor pesperctive, I think it is important to point out that doctors must seriously consider the experience of the vendor in hospital integrations. Not all EHR vendors have the capability or experience necessary for the implementation. While issues happen sometimes regardless of the experience of the vendor, the last thing you need is to find out later that there are way too many kinks that affect patient care that your EHR vendor can’t handle.Christian Hetrick is a practice advisor in the Southeast US for an ONC-ATCB certified EHR vendor
