The competition for consumers: health insurance moves to the web

health-insurance-exchange-oct-1-270Scott & White Health Plan is pushing into the health insurance exchange (HIX) space with an interesting marketing approach, aimed at luring consumers toward their insurance plans via the web.

Scott & White is the insurance arm of a six-hospital system and is planning to roll out their HIX, created under the 2010 Affordable Care Act, statewide, starting October 1st 2013. The Texas hospital system aims to capture customers and maintain their health with an integrated wellness plan similar to Kaiser Permanente.

“We have to have a retail presence,” said Allan Einboden, CEO of the Scott & White Health Plan, “As soon as you say health insurance, they tune out.”
