Senate committee reviews costs and benefits of health reform
Last Thursday, the Senate committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions convened to review the Affordable Care Act’s impact as it head into the homestretch of implementation.
CMS’s Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) director, Gary Cohen, reported on the ongoing transformations in the insurance industry, both where they currently are, and perhaps more importantly, where they are going.
“We’re paying more than we should be because people aren’t getting the kind of care that they should be,” said Cohen. “In the past, Americans used preventive services at half the recommended rate; nearly 71 million Americans now have preventative access without cost-sharing.”
