The 2012 Healthcare IT Connect Spring Summit included presentations and discussions from a wide variety of healthcare IT leaders. All involved brought years of experience and a willingness to both share ideas and listen to feedback from audience participants.

Beginning first with a brief history of the fundamental transformation leading up to the era of accountable care. Jim relates the changes in healthcare as being legislatively based as much as they are market driven. A focus on value, changes in care delivery models, and shifting some of the responsibility to consumers are some of the key points recommended in facilitating that transformation. Sandeep Wadhwa, Chief Medical Officer 3M. and Terri McCubbin, RN, CPP, CPUR, CMC, Director, 3M
Dr. Wadhwa opened his joint speaker session with Terri McCubbin by laying out the goals for healthcare reform including improving clinical quality, decreasing cost, and making early preparations for the roll out of ICD-10. Click to watch video
Terri McCubbin continued by sharing her background with clinical documentation, stressing the need for increased granularity of data as a means to drive the necessary changes to the culture of healthcare. Click to watch video
Melinda Hancock, Chief Financial Officer, Bons Secours Health
Hancock shared her perspective as a CFO, striving to deliver better value in Bons Secours’ Value Project. For The Value Project, Bon Secours worked with 30 different health systems to close the value gap with a health IT platform. Bons Serous sought to deliver value based on four principles including:
- People and culture
- Business Intelligence
- Performance improvement
- Contract and Risk Management
Charles DeShazer, VP Medical Informatics, Quality and Transformation, Dean Health System
DeShazer provided an in-depth look at his background at Kaiser Permanente, utilizing electronic health records and informatics for more efficient care coordination as the ACO model emerges across the healthcare industry. Click to watch video
