Ohio Steps Forward to Become 25th State to Join Medicaid Expansion
The state of Ohio has officially request $2.5 billion in federal support to expand its Medicaid program. Ohio Governor John Kasich led Ohio into Medicaid expansion against the wishes of Republican-controlled legislators utilizing an oversight panel technique.
As many as 366,000 new enrollees are expected to join Ohio’s Medicaid program, of which 270,000 are currently uninsured.
The legislature of the state of Ohio has vowed to fight the expansion, arguing that Gov. Kasich’s use of technical loophole was not legal. If the expansion goes through and is fully funded, Ohio will become the 4th Republican controlled state to expand their Medicaid program.
