New York State Pre-Launch HIX to 2.5M
State health departments from around the United States are all preparing to launch their “health benefit exchange” programs. New York with an uninsured population of about 2.5 million are expecting massive enrollment in the following months. So how will each person be educated about the exchange program?
Hospital council members and other are concerned that the masses will not know anything about it.
Kevin Dahill, chief executive of the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council said, “The average person doesn’t know anything about this stuff. It’s pretty imminent and it’s a big change.”
New York has set up a New York Health Benefit Exchange website where people can enroll starting on Oct. 1. New York is also training a number of “navigators” to assist phone or person-to-person site enrollment.
