Miles Snowden, Chief Medical Officer, Optum
For more than 20 years, Miles has focused his work on progressively improving medical outcomes for patients, the health of communities, the affordability of healthcare benefits for employers and their employees, and the financial performance of payers and providers. Core to this focus has been his belief that all of these healthcare stakeholders can be similarly benefited through thoughtful innovation and consultation.
As chief medical officer for OptumHealth, a national leader in health and wellness services, Miles works to help people and providers make informed health care decisions, prevent illness, and navigate the health care system. He collaborates with employers, payers and providers on the health and wellness needs of nearly 60 million people.
Previously, Miles worked for UnitedHealthcare, where he served as executive vice president, national accounts. He led national clinical product development, delivery, and consulting. Concurrently, he led UnitedHealthcare’s southeast region client management organization.
Prior to his work at UnitedHealthcare, he was chief medical officer at Delta Air Lines, where he managed global health care benefits for more than 180,000 individuals. Earlier in his career, Miles founded an occupational health consulting practice in Louisville, Ky., and served as its medical director.
His undergraduate and medical degrees were obtained at the University of Louisville and he completed his medical residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and also the American Board of Preventive Medicine, as well as being a certified employee benefits specialist.
