Dr. William Ellert currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Saint Joseph’s Medical Group and the Arizona Care Network, LLC. Saint Joseph’s Medical Group is the employed medical group of Dignity Health Arizona and consists of approximately 200 physicians serving not only the clinical needs of the region, but also serving as the faculty for over 150 residents and fellows as well as the core faculty for the Phoenix Campus of Creighton Medical School. Arizona Care Network, LLC is a joint venture between Dignity Health Arizona and Abrazo Health System. It is a physician-led, physician-driven network and accountable care organization consisting of approximately 1300 physicians, 9 participating hospitals and a number of community partners.
Prior to his current positions, Dr. Ellert served as the Chief Medical Officer of Phoenix Baptist Hospital and Arizona Heart Hospital, both part of the Abrazo System. Over the past seven years, Dr. Ellert has also served as the Chairman of the Board of Circle the City, a charitable organization established to care for the needs of the homeless during times of illness. Last year, Circle the City opened the first medical respite for the homeless in the state of Arizona. It is a 50-bed facility where the homeless can recover following an acute hospital stay or an emergency room visit. Dr. Ellert’s current clinical practice consists of teaching in the Family Medicine Residency Program and clinical coverage of the respite center.
Dr. Ellert is a graduate of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and completed his residency in Family Medicine through the University of Minnesota Affiliated Programs, Fairview-Riverside Campus. His undergraduate and graduate studies were completed in nursing at The Catholic University of American and the University of Pennsylvania, respectively. In 2008, Dr. Ellert was named the Arizona Family Physician of the Year and in 2009, he was named the National Family Physician of the Year.
