Dr. Fernandez has been in private practice in Houston since 1993. The name of his practice is Memorial-Katy Gastroenterology Consultants.
Prior to coming to Houston, he served as assistant professor of medicine at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD., and The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Fernandez served as a physician in the United States Air Force from 1981 to 1993. He was an Internal Medicine Resident and Chief of Residents at David Grant United States Air Force Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California from 1981 to 1985. He performed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree with Magna Cum Laude honors from the University of South Florida in 1976.
He has served in various capacities on committees at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, Memorial Hospital-Memorial City and Christus St. Catherine. Dr. Fernandez was President of the Medical Staff at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital from 2001 through 2003. He is Chairman of Clinical Ethic and Palliative care as well as Chairman of Clinical Operations for Memorial Hermann Health Network Provider.
He is or has been a member of the following professional societies: Texas Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy; Harris County Medical Society; American Gastroenterological Association; American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy; American Medical Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.
He was Physician of the Year at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital in 2001 and was named Best Clinical Instructor, Department of Medicine, Travis Air Force Base in 1984.
