Colorado Board Battles Over HIX Federal Funding
Colorado health insurance exchange (HIX) board CEO Patty Fontneau believes that $125 should be enough funding for the states online insurance marketplace, but several consumer advocacy groups are disputing that figure. The third and final grant request for federal dollars is due May 15th for Connect for Health Colorado.
If the $125 million request is granted, the total investment for Colorado’s HIX will come to $185 million. As different states approach their respective HIX projects from a variety of footings, its difficult to say exactly how much or how little they’ll need to spent to build out and stand up their initial efforts.
“The long-term viability of the exchange strongly depends on its success in the first year when Coloradans initial experiences will shape their impressions of the exchange for years to come,” – a letter from a second coalition that includes AARP, Boulder County and safety net health care provider Denver Health.
